BEING A PRESS STATEMENT DURING GRAND ENDORSEMENT OF PROF. IBRAHIM ABUBAKAR NJODI AS CHAIRMAN, NORTHEAST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (NEDC) BY STUDENTS AND YOUTH GROUPS
PROTOCOLS
All gratitude due to Almighty Allah, the sovereignty, the one in absolute control for the opportunity and wisdom he has showered on us endlessly to witness this blessed and auspicious day, set aside by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) zone E under the leadership of youth groups of the Northeastern caucus under the leadership of comrade said ali amtai for the grand endorsement of an astute administrator, an amiable mentor, a seasoned academician and philanthropists.
A bank of knowledge,a total album of unpolluted decency, a spotless mirror of any motion because of his straight forwardness,a missionary and visionary leader worthy of emulation with moral compass, character, integrity, courage, humility, capacity, responsibility, prudence and competence who rendered and have been rendering selfless services to humanity, in person of Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi to be appointed as the next MD of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) Considering his wealth of experience in both human and national development.
Great Nigerians may recall that President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Bill 2017, a significant statement to underscore national concern with the devastation suffered by the region due to the Boko Haram insurgency. The bill which became a source of debate as to its merits and demerits was sponsored by the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Yakubu Dogara from Bauchi State and by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno State in the Senate with the mandates to coordinate the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of infrastructure for victims and terrorism as well as tackling the menace of poverty, illiteracy, ecological challenges in the North-Eastern states and other related matters.
The youth and student’s community from the benefiting states to include Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Maiduguri, Adamawa and Taraba states welcomed and considered this development as a national concern and interest, and pledged to identify with relevant stakeholders in the proper planning and implementation of the commissions mandate.
The recovery and redevelopment of the region is expected to last for decades.” The Act also gives the North-East Development Commission the mandate to receive and manage funds allocated by the Federal Government and international donor agencies for the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of insurgency.
Everyone in Nigeria agrees that the North East region, especially Borno State, has suffered exceptional devastation of the kind that warrants national and international emergency response in order to get the region back on its feet again.
It will be recalled that in a previous editorial last year, students and youth groups opposed the establishment of NEDC because we thought it will duplicate the functions of federal, state and local governments and their agencies as well as bring another layer of bureaucracy to efforts to rebuild the region. You must agree with me that the Chairmanship of such establishment need an experienced, dedicated, redemptive, confident and competent leader who practices what he preaches like Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi.
Leadership of course is not a matter of age, tenure or title, but ability to influence and positively impact on the lives of people.
When you place a leader in a position that fits his abilities, it will be apparent in the overall quality of his work. Prof Njodi has become a reference point for new ideas, determination, dynamism, educational development and possibilities for the less privilege. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who is a Nigerian Professor of Health Education, an immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri and Secretary to the Gombe State Government is tested and trusted hand in civil and public service have succeeded in translating himself to become one of the most outstanding change agent in Northeast and Nigeria at large.
Success and destiny are defined by many parameters and perimeters.
According to the humble Prof Njodi and I quoted “The secret of living is giving.” That is to say, when you contribute to the well-being of others, communities and the world at large shall in turn recognize you. As someone who become a source of inspiration and motivation to the students and youth communities in the Northeast region, we are making this clarion call to affirm and reaffirm our recognition and absolute support to Prof. Njodi to serve in this awaiting capacity.
In the words of Aristotle that he says, and I quote "Men of substance are not dressed in Gold, it is only when you scratch their back, you will discover they are made of Gold". Prof Njodi is indeed made of pure gold. The students and youth communities in the Northeast sees him as a paradox of phenomenon, a reference point, a signature of success, a bridge builder, a pathfinder, consistence democrat, classic principal, grass root mobilizer, an achiever par excellence and one of the best mind with practical ideas in Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
On these notes and henceforth, on this date of 2022,We the representatives of students and youth constituency of Northeast, hereby declared our 100% support and solidarity for Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar to serve as the next Chairman, Northeast Development Commission (NEDC. We are appealing from the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders to consider our request under protocols and authorities concerned.
Thank You
