Increase in Pump Price of PMS not Acceptable: Northern Youths Assembly

Johnson Faith

The Northern Youths Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN) has caution the Federal Government against the plan increase of the Pump Price of Premium Motor Spirit known as PMS and Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG)/Cooking Gas) amidst hardship.

In a Statement signed by the Speaker Rt.Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Lawal described the moves as in human and called on President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR to urgently address this forseing harship confronting Nigeria.

The full Statement reads;

NORTHERN YOUTHS WARNS FGN OVER HARDSHIP, INCREMENT OF PETROLEUM PUMP PRICE, LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS(LPG/COOKING GAS).

The hardship, the level of poverty, has cause  mindboggling and our people are perplexed.

We call on the attention of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow selfish individuals to sobotage his good will for masses because of their personal gains, we want to raise an alarm  that there are indications that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) may hit N320 per litre, The NNPC  leadership is making moves to conclude on its  plans to effect the aboved and I'm assuring them that it will be rejected vehemently by Northern Youth's

The skyrocketing oil price, expected to hit $100 per barrel before the end of this year, will also push prices of petroleum products to a record high and worsen the spike in price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had in few weeks disclosed that it spent a total of N905.27 billion on petrol subsidy in eight months amid rising global oil prices.

The Northern Youth Assembly Of Nigeria (NYAN) decried the continuous risen in the price of the liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG/Cooking gas) which exemplifies that everything is wrong with Nigeria economy and this should serve as a call to our economic handler's to push more  deliberate effort to create an atmosphere of hope and optimism.

Cooking gas is symbolic as it's represents a product many northerner's and nigerians, especially those living in urban, semi-urban and slum area's uses.

This increment had made Nigerians facing already hydra-headed challenges on all fronts: hight cost of food and essential consumables, heyperinflation and diminishing trust in government and it's institution at all levels, and the worse, there's no clarity on the way forward by no one.

We want to warn that this increment will lead to the escalation of other daily living cost: Gasoline pump prices, electricity tariffs, basic prescription drug prices and mass transportation in urban areas and rural areas.

It will be pretentious of us not to acknowledge that this rise in living cost, shrinking of the purchasing power of average income and low-income families, these are responsible for the current atmosphere of discontent and may result in an implosion if not checked.

Everyday quality of existence for the average northerner's is depreciating and people are quickly bemoaning their fate and hoping for salvation-both spiritual and physical.

We are critically appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari as man who will listen to voice of reasons to intervened and bring about lasting sollution to this social problems before it's explode with everyone.

Signed
Rt Hon Ibrahim Mohammed Lawal
Speaker, Northern Youth Assembly Of Nigeria (NYAN).
